Immanuel Baptist Church

Immanuel Baptist Church is one of Shawnee’s oldest churches with a history of reaching this community, starting in a little home in a neighborhood near the center of town, right up to today in a newly constructed facility in the fastest growing part of Shawnee. Immanuel’s focus remains on reaching the lost, and growing its family in their relationships with Jesus Christ, with each other, and with the community around them.

Immanuel engages in many ministries intended to reach both the local community, and communities elsewhere. AWANA for school age children, a vibrant, active, disciple-making youth group, and mission partnerships with Arizona, and Quito, Ecuador all provide ways for students to be enriched, as well as serve. A strong, ongoing Christian education ministry including regular discipleship classes, and a growing adult Sunday School ministry allow families that attend to be grown and stretched in their faith, and equipped to share it with those around them. These classes regularly focus on family-related topics, including marriage enrichment models (Five Love Languages, Making the Most of Marriage), and parenting needs (Parenting on Purpose, Visionary Parenting).

When it comes to family ministry, Immanuel is at the forefront of both work already ongoing, and tremendous opportunity to grow in its reach to families. This congregation is blessed to have many multi-generation families as members. There is a tremendous wealth of senior adults that intentionally, actively, generously connect with the even greater population of young families that make up our congregation. Inter-generational connectedness is a value that is important here, and it allows families, many of whom came to Shawnee during college, or early professional careers, to have a sense of family from their first day

Immanuel has specific Sunday School classes for singles and blended families that address the particular needs of those family types, as well as provide community for them. Young couples and families learn family-focused applications of the Scriptures, and meet together for fellowship and to serve in different ministries regularly. This group is also leading out in the establishment of a small-group ministry to enhance IBC’s reach to working moms and dads in the community.

Lastly, every couple that wishes to be married at IBC goes through a regimen of premarital preparation and at least informal mentoring prior to their wedding. Marriage and family counseling services are available as a ministry of the church to members as well as the community at large.

Whether it is through the educational ministry of the church, from the pulpit, or in a time of need, Immanuel is privileged to do whatever it can to serve the needs of families in Shawnee. We understand that family ministry is not just a set of programmatic offerings, but a ministry culture, and we are excited about the opportunities God has placed before us to meet the needs of families in our community. We would love to hear from you.
