Parenting For Real Life

By James and Lynne Jackson

The premise of “Parenting for Real Life” is that we ought to be far less concerned about how children behave, and far more concerned about how our own spiritual life and learning contributes to our parenting. The goal of the book is to show how this premise is the foundation for raising children who know Christ, and view the world as their mission field.

More than just a job requiring us to know good techniques, parenting presents us with perhaps our most potent opportunity to look at our own hearts and behaviors, and “take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.” The inescapable challenges of family life confront us not only with our children’s needs for love, teaching, and correction, but with our own need for transformation.

The book teaches four simple, but powerful guiding principles that show how a parent’s growth might live itself out in the challenges of every day life. These principles integrate the parent’s own spiritual walk into the very practical need our children have to be loved, taught, and corrected. Numerous stories and practical applications bring the teaching to life. The book is a great personal workbook, study group guide, and even an excellent accountability resource in the hands of parent mentors, coaches, and counselors.

"This is the BEST PARENTING BOOK I’ve read, and I’ve read a lot! It’s simply transformational!"  Paul Johnson, Pastor, and Senior Vice President of the Baptist General Conference.

“This book is BRILLIANT! Jim and Lynne’s practicality and authenticity simply ooze of God’s grace. Their spiritually smart system equips parents with a concrete, easy to learn framework for flexible, creative parenting.” Charlene Ann Baumbich, author of twelve books including “Don’t Miss Your Kids”, and “365 Ways to Connect with Your Kids.”

Our small group just finished an eight session study of the book’s 24 chapters. The content is so rich we’re going to go through it again, a chapter at a time!” Jodi and Rich, Small group leaders, Church of The Open Door, Maple Grove MN.
